EV Star

GreenPower Motor Company manufactures a complete range of medium- and heavy-duty electric vehicles, including lower-floor and high-floor models. Their flagship vehicle is the EV Star Cab & Chassis platform, which can accommodate many different bodies and upfits for a variety of applications. The design of the platform is based on a clear paper sheet, which allows for optimum placement of the battery pack and a lower center-of-gravity. This results in better payload/range ratios.
The EV Star REEFERX was designed for mid-to-last mile refrigerated deliveries and catering applications. The class 4 refrigerated trucks with a single wall structure inside, and higher insulation than traditional trucks, enable seamless sanitation and better temperature control. They also have a longer service life. The EV Star REEFERX offers superior capacity for cargo and an industry leading payload to range ratio that is ideal for zero-emission goods and passenger transportation.
GreenPower has partnered with Perrone Robotics to up-fit the EV Star with their TONY (To Navigate You) autonomous vehicle system. This will allow fleets to quickly transition to autonomous vehicles. The AV Star is also capable of wireless charging up to 75 kW.
We were allowed to test drive the EV9 on a local highway for several hours. We found it easy to drive, and comfortable to drive over long distances. The EV9 is able to suppress road noise and wind while on the highway. It glides effortlessly over bumps and ruts. The acceleration is quite fast and the car has adjustable regenerative braking to enable "one pedal driving" by lifting off of the accelerator.
The EV9 is extremely reliable and can be fully recharged in about three hours at home, or with any commercial charger. Drivers can choose between two operating modes that include eco mode and sports mode. Eco mode focuses on the torque, cruise control and handling while sport mode maximizes speed. Both modes are enjoyable to drive and provide an unforgettable experience for those who have never been in a vehicle with an electrical system before.
GreenPower offers several other eVehicles, including a multipurpose all-electric minibus, called the EV Star. The EV Star is ADA compliant and can be used as an executive shuttle, transit or micro-transit vanpool, bus, or paratransit vehicle.
GreenPower is currently producing around 10 EV Star buses a month for the Jacksonville Transit Authority, which is attempting to replace their fleet of diesel vehicles with 100 fully electric vehicles. With greenpower mobility scooter mymobilityscooters.uk aiming to electrify school buses across the country, GreenPower plans on ramping production to meet demand. Their EV Star bus is the first of its kind to be tested by Altoona and FMVSS-certified, Buy America compliant and ADA compliant. This makes them eligible for federal transit grants. Stay tuned as we follow the AV Star on its demonstration tour later this year. We'll be sure to give more details about this innovative EV!
